Local businesses are being encouraged to upload photos of their shop front so people can choose a winner.
The competition is part of the Mole Valley Together, ‘Make it a Mole Valley Christmas’ campaign, which is supporting businesses and the community by encouraging everyone to shop local safely. The Mole Valley Together website features a wide range of Mole Valley businesses that are offering Christmas offers and gifts via call, or click and collect, and the Facebook group is a ‘shop front’ for any businesses wanting to update their customers on opening times and routes to purchase.
Councillor Stephen Cooksey, Leader of Mole Valley District Council said,
“We are keen for our Christmas window competition to go ahead, as Christmas magic and sparkle is needed more than ever this festive season.
“We very much hope that all our businesses can re-open in December and, whilst they cannot now, we look forward to featuring their wonderful Christmas window displays online.
“Businesses can upload their pictures via our Mole Valley Together website. Voting will begin on 21 November, so we urge businesses to get involved as soon as possible. A prize will be given to one voter from each town and village centre. In Dorking there will be five prizes for five voters as supplied by the BID. Winning businesses will receive a certificate to display and the accompanying publicity for their win.
“Prizes in Dorking are being organised by the BID; we are delighted to be partnering with them and Mole Valley Chamber for this competition. Prizes for the rest of Mole Valley’s winning voters, some beautiful Christmas hampers, have been kindly donated by Waitrose in Dorking.
“Whilst the message from government is very clearly to stay at home apart from specific purposes during this national lockdown, we do look forward to seeing the online images of these window displays on our website and via social media. Once the current restrictions are lifted it will be wonderful to see all these festive displays. Please tag any images with #MVFestiveWindow.”
Voting will close at midnight on Thursday 17 December. Prize-winners will be announced on 18 December.
