An investigation has concluded that a pilot who sustained serious injuries after making an emergency landing in Surrey, had probably run out of fuel.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Gatton Park near Reigate in August last year, after the light aircraft crash landed. The pilot made a Mayday call at around 1300 feet following engine failure just north of Reigate. He was able to circle to find a suitable area for a forced landing

However, as the aircraft touched down the landing gear clipped something, causing it to turn 90 degrees resulting in significant damage to the front and injuries for the pilot. The AAIB report concluded that the pilot performed a forced landing after the engine stopped due to fuel starvation.
