Thursday saw the famous Flying Scotsman steam train pass through Surrey. To celebrate, Surrey Police shared a poem on their facebook page.

Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;

Later today, that most famous of trains,
The Flying Scotsman is passing through Staines.

Down the mainline, out into Surrey,
Through Chertsey, then Woking, then Guildford it hurries,

And “oh what a sight” for those who will glance it,
But stay off the rails – don’t be tempted to chance it.

To Shalford, then Chilworth, then Dorking Deepdene,
Large crowds will gather as it’s letting off steam.

To Betchworth, then Reigate, then Redhill then home…
With a hefty big fine if you’re flying a drone.

Back to Victoria, then same again later:
It’s a wonderful sight, but “be careful” spectator!

(with apologies to Robert Louis Stevenson)
