Attempted car theft in Banstead and Epsom

Police are looking for information after an attempted car theft in Banstead.

Officers were called to an address in Burgh Wood, 2am on 27 October after a woman was notified by her video doorbell and saw a man outside on the driveway.

The man attempted to get into her car through both the driver and passenger door before the victim opened her window and shouted at him causing him to run away.

An hour later, a similar incident was reported in Epsom where a man matching the same description was seen looking at a car this time in the company of a second man.

The man is described as White and was wearing a flat cap, long jacket with hood and had a backpack.

To help protect your vehicle keep following the advice below:

  • always lock it even if you are only leaving it for a few minutes and close all your windows
  • if possible, park in well-lit, well-populated or overlooked areas
  • remove any valuables from display
  •  park in an area covered by CCTV or a video doorbell
  •  remove any electronic devices such as a sat nav
  •  secure anything that is on the outside of your vehicle such as bikes or a roof-box
