The bid to make Crawley a city was submitted last week by Crawley Borough Council.
Councillors agreed to enter the Civic Honours competition, part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, in October.
The 46-page document includes a summary outlining the bid, an introduction to Crawley, a profile of the town, a map and 50 photographs.
If successful, the town will be the first New Town to be named a city.
