A record number of local sporting heroes were celebrated at the annual Reigate & Banstead Sports Awards last week.
A record 83 nominations were received for 11 categories and were presented at a special ceremony at The Harlequin Theatre in Redhill. Sportspeople, coaches, and volunteers were among those highlighted as the borough’s best sporting talent.
Among the winners were Horley Cricket Club who were named Club of the Year, and the Team of the Year award went to Merstham Ladies Football Club.
Councillor Kanika Sachdeva was on the judging panel. She hopes to see more people get involved in sport in the borough.

The judging panel, made up of members of the RB Sports Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council spent several hours deliberating over the entries. After some tricky decision making, eleven worthy winners were chosen!
This year’s winners are:
- Volunteer of the Year – Winner – Mr Colin Terry – Horley Cricket Club
- Young Volunteer of the Year – Winner – Catherine Turrington
- Changing Lives Award – Winner – Spence Ogilvie
- Sports Person of the Year – Winner – Neil Baker – Banstead Cricket Club
- Young Sports Person of the Year – Winners – Nathan Barnwell – Banstead Cricket Club and Rachel Harris – Reigate Squash Club
- Coach of the Year – Winner – Clare Wright – Reigate Squash Club
- Club of the Year – Winner – Horley Cricket Club
- Team of the Year – Winner – Merstham Ladies FC
- Junior Team of the Year – Winner – South Park U14 Girls FC
- Senior Citizen Award – Winner – Wendy McGurrin
- Inclusive Sport Award – Winner – George Woodall
