Crawley Town Football Club have announced the signing of Woking midfielder Jack Roles on a one-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Roles is an exciting attacking midfield player who first joined the Cards on a short-term deal towards the end of the 2021/22 season. He made ten appearances during his first campaign at Kingfield after joining the club from Premier League club Crystal Palace in February.

Roles had previously spent six years in the academy system of Tottenham Hotspur. He was highly thought of by Spurs and earned himself a two-year extension on his contract in the summer of 2019. The next year he enjoyed a successful spell on loan at League 2 side Cambridge United, scoring five times in 23 league appearances, winning the division’s Player of the Month Award once.

The Cypriot youth international had brief spells with Burton Albion and Stevenage, before ending a 16-year association with Tottenham to join London rivals Palace, following a successful trial.

Speaking on his move to the Reds, Roles said: “I am so happy and so grateful to everyone at Crawley for taking me on this opportunity. I found out a couple of weeks ago, and straight away, I thought if this could happen for me, it would be great. I have spoken to some of the lads I have known at Tottenham, and they have said what a great club it is, so I am looking forward to it.

Manager Scott Lindsey added: “We are incredibly excited to have Jack on board. He has a great pedigree coming from great academies with Spurs and Crystal Palace. He also has great experience in the Football League. He’s of a good age and is someone I am looking forward to coaching and trying to make a great player of.”

Interim CEO and Director of Football Chris Galley said: “Jack is a fantastic young, technical midfielder, who works incredibly hard and is a real danger in the final third.”

Crawley Town FC have also confirmed midfielder Jake Hessenthaler has joined National League side Woking on loan until the end of the season.
