Man Found Guilty of Murdering Met Police Sergeant Matt Ratana

A man has been found guilty of murdering Met Police sergeant, Matt Ratana.

Sergeant Ratana was shot in the chest at Croydon’s Windmill Road custody centre and died of his injuries in hospital.

Louis de Zoysa from Banstead had smuggled a gun into the custody centre and, while handcuffed, shot Sergeant Ratana in the chest.  De Zoysa claimed diminished responsibility but a jury at Northampton Crown Court ruled that he had acted deliberately.  He will be sentenced on 27th July.

Matt was head coach at East Grinstead Rugby Club where he has been remembered with a statue.
