Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is urging the community to choose services wisely during this month’s industrial action.
The Trust which runs East Surrey Hospital made the request prior to 10 days of strikes; the longest period of industrial action the NHS has ever seen. The junior doctors’ strike started last Thursday and will last until tomorrow. Less than 48 hours later NHS consultants will also take action on 20th and 21st July.
The Trust asks patients to attend an urgent treatment centre or minor injury unit for non life-threatening care to ensure emergency care is available for those who need it. The urgent treatment centre at Crawley and the Minor Injury Units at Caterham Dene, Horsham and East Grinstead will continue to provide care.
Patients who need urgent and emergency care should still go to A&E or ring 999 for their care.
