Over 53,000 people are waiting for treatment at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, according to figures published by NHS England. Of those waiting, almost 2,500 have been waiting longer than a year.
Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Crawley, Peter Lamb, said “Crawley people deserve better” and that the current situation is “about underfunding”. He said Labour would train thousands more staff and reform the health service.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told BBC News it was “disappointing” the waiting list was growing nationally and said “industrial action is a significant cause”.
