Tesco fail in High Court challenge of new Lidl store

Tesco has failed in it High Court challenge to stop Lidl from building a new store in Horley.

The supermarket had challenged Reigate and Banstead Borough Council’s planning permission that would allow Lidl to open on the site of the Air Balloon pub.

Lidl wants to relocate from the town centre to Brighton road as it describes it current location as not-fit-for-purpose.

While Tesco argued that the planning committee failed to consider the Grade II listed building preservation.

James Strachan KC, threw out the bid, stating the socio-economic benefits were sufficient to grant planning permission.
