Elderly residents in Tandridge are being warned of a telephone scam which has already claimed one victim.
As part of the scam someone claiming to work for Tandridge District Council phones residents offering a reduced council tax band and a refund if they pay a £59 fee.
The victims are then asked to provide their bank details.
The District Council is reminding everyone that they will never contact residents and ask for bank or other personal details.
Anyone who has been a victim of this scam should call Surrey Police on 101.
