Councils unite to tackle flytipping

Flytipping is becoming an increasing problem.

In an attempt to take a more proactive approach to tackling this offence Tandrige, Reigate & Banstead, and Mole Valley councils are joining forces.

The union will see an introduction to new technology and legislation; as well as stop and search days with officers from Department for Work and Pensions, DVLA, Environment Agency; Trading Standards; UK Visas and Immigrations service as well as council enforcement officers working together.

The Environment Agency has a public register of waste carriers on its website www.gov.uk/find-registered-waste-carrier or call 03708 506 506.

Tandridge District Council offer the following advice:

  •  To report a flytip as it happens, please call Surrey Police on 999.
  •  If a flytip is blocking a road call Surrey County Council on 0300 200 1003.
  •  If it is not in progress, but you have information, please fill in the form on www.tandridge.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01883 722000. A reward of up to £500 is offered by the Council to anyone who provides information which leads to a successful prosecution for fly tipping.
  •  Details of flytipping incidents where more information is needed can be found on our appeals page www.tandridge.gov.uk/appeals.
