If you’re heading outside to enjoy the summer remember that fire safety doesn’t stop when you leave the house.
Surrey’s the most wooded county in England and last year there were almost 900 outdoor fires, including in bins, fences and bus stops.
Following some simple safety steps can reduce the risk of fire starting and spreading outdoors.
These include ensuring your barbecue is well away from sheds, fences, trees, shrubs or garden waste – and of course never left unattended.
Also avoid open fires, ensure you put out any cigarettes properly and never use a candle in or near a tent or caravan.
