Twenty-five local organisations from the voluntary and community sector were awarded funding from East Surrey Place (ESP) to provide health and wellbeing support. The grants of up to £10K include organisations in Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge areas.

East Surrey Place is a partnership of health and care organisations –
including Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Tandridge District Council – working together to plan and deliver services that improve the health and wellbeing of local communities.

In February 2022, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council was asked to set up and administer a Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) grant fund – managing £134,000 from ESP – to support the delivery of the Prevention and Communities Programme across East Surrey.

This programme aims to help people stay well by working together to prevent illnesses and create conditions to enable everyone in East
Surrey to improve their own health and wellbeing.

The CHC grant funding was used to support initiatives in the ESP region, which covers the Reigate & Banstead area south of the M25 and the whole of the Tandridge District Council area.

Some adults are waiting five years to be assessed for ADHD because of a sharp rise in referrals, the BBC has found.

Assessments for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can take longer than five years in Sussex and up to four years in Surrey, data from health bodies show.

Campaigners are calling for increased government investment to cut
waiting times and speed up diagnosis.

NHS bosses said increased awareness has put significant pressure on services.

Surrey and Borders NHS Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said referrals for assessment have risen from more than 2,200 in 2020/21 to over 4,400 in 2021/22.

Sussex Partnership NHS Trust said demand for services has “had an impact on waiting lists and we know that people are experiencing long waiting times”.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “We are
increasing investment into mental health services by at least £2.3
billion a year by 2023/24 so an additional two million people can get
the support they need.”

A man from Surrey has been found guilty of terrorism offences including possessing explosive substances.

Asad Bhatti of Holland Close, Redhill was investigated by officers from Counter Terrorism Police after he took his computer in to a shop to be fixed.

 On further investigation, officers found bomb making equipment and other material relating to terrorism at premises relating to Bhatti.

Glen O’Dwyer, is from the computer shop where the laptop was taken.

 Bhatti will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Tuesday 25 April. 

Tandridge District Council is taking steps to prosecute the occupants of the unauthorised encampment set up on a field off Tanhouse Road in Oxted.

Back in December several caravans moved onto the site, where drainage work and hard surfacing was soon installed.

The Council served several enforcement notices to prevent further development and for the occupants to leave.

Because no-one has yet left the site, the Council are taking steps to prosecute the occupants for not complying with the notices given to them.
