Retired Teacher Charged With Historical Abuse Offences

A retired teacher has been charged with the historical indecent assault of a boy in his charge

The 11 offences are alleged to have taken place between 1969 and 1972 at Christs Hospital School in Horsham.

The victim was aged between 11 and 14 at the time.

Peter Burr, aged 72 from Dartmouth is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wed 13 September).

Crawley Town Sign Defender

Crawley Town have signed 21-year-old full back Josh Doherty on a one-year-deal with the option of an extra year.

The Northern Ireland youth international has appeared at U17, U19 and U21 levels for his country.

A product of Watford academy who played under Reds Head Coach Harry Kewell during his time in Hertfordshire, signed his first scholarship forms with the Hornets in 2012, before making his senior debut for the club in 2014 against Huddersfield Town, signing his first professional contract 11 days later.

In the summer of 2016 the defender joined Leyton Orient, before moving on to Altrincham on a month’s loan.

Crawley Little Trees Cemetery

Crawley Borough Council is displaying plans, images and information and answering questions about Little Trees Cemetery before it opens next month.

Work began in October 2016 and the 12-acre site has been transformed into a modern cemetery by local contractor Hobart Paving.

And now the council is holding staffed drop-in sessions for residents, faith groups and funeral directors to show what the cemetery will look like and to answer any questions.

The staffed sessions will be held on:
Tuesday 5 September, 3-7pm in the Civic Hall
Thursday 7 September, 12 noon-4pm in the Town Hall foyer
Tuesday 12 September, 12 noon-4pm in the Town Hall foyer
Thursday 14 September, 4-7pm in the Civic Hall

In addition, the display will be in the Town Hall foyer from Wednesday 6 September until Wednesday 13 September for visitors to view.

Armed Robbery In Oxted

Staff at Paul James Jewellers in Oxted High Street were threatened by two men with covered faces during an armed robbery yesterday afternoon (Tue 5 Sep 2017).

Police were called to the shop around 2:45pm.

No one was injured during the incident and it’s not yet known what was taken from the shop.

Officers were also dealing with a nearby car fire which is believed to have been linked to the robbery.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting incident reference P17225984.

Court Lodge Playground Horley Redevelopment

Horley Town Council will be re-developing the playground in the Court Lodge play area.

Damaged and worn equipment will be removed and new play equipment for toddlers and older children will be installed. New equipment will cater for children up to 12 years of age.

Damaged surfacing will be replaced and new safety surfaces will be created.

The project should be completed by March next year.

Horley Town Council will be engaging contractors by way of a public tender next month.
