Godstone Fraud Men Jailed

Two men who attempted to con an elderly woman out of £8,000 for garden work in Godstone have been sent to jail for eight months.

Kieran Ryan from Camberley, and Jasper Smith from Caterham pleaded guilty to fraud and were sentenced at Guildford Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday 2 September).

On January 31 they visited a woman in her 90s at her home in Godstone and asked for £8,000 in cash following a small amount of gardening work they had done for her.

However they were thwarted after bank staff reported the unusual cash withdrawal to police.

Officers went to her home later that day and stopped the duo as they attempted to drive off.

And to complete the happy ending to the story, local tree care company Connick Tree Care came forward and offered to carry out her garden work for free.
