Fire Strikes in Surrey

Non-striking firefighters will give emergency cover during next week’s strikes by the Fire Brigades’ Union.

They will be backed up by Surrey County Council’s contract with private company Specialist Group International

Despite this however there may be fewer fire engines than normal.

River Rescue in Horley

A policeman has rescued a woman from a river in Horley.

The woman – in her 50s – was spotted wading into the water in the afternoon on Wednesday (9th July)

Surrey PC Mark Fulham followed the woman into the river to help bring her back to the bank.

The woman has now been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Gatwick: Infrastructure before Expansion

Infrastructure in Surrey will come before airport expansion says County Council leader, David Lodge.

Yesterday, the Davies Commission confirmed that it will consult residents – and will ask about the need for improved roads, rail services, housing, healthcare and schools in the area.

Redhill Landfill Site Smell

A landfill site in Redhill is taking steps to control the terrible smell.

Managers at Biffa Landfill plan to build waste up higher and use vertical walls which will hopefully be better at controlling the odour.

These measures come after Reigate MP Crispin Blunt visited the site in response to people’s complaints.
