Sussex and Surrey Police On Alert

Following the terror attack in Manchester on Monday, Surrey and Sussex Police are continuing to review all their policing plans on a daily basis.

Among the steps taken include increasing armed officers shifts to 12 hours and have enhanced high visibility policing to provide reassurance for local communities.

As part of an existing national plan called Operation Temperer, military personnel can be deployed under police command to assist in certain firearms roles to free up police resources.
At this stage there are no requirements to deploy armed troops across Surrey or Sussex however this remains an option if needed and will continue to be reviewed.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry noted that terrorists want to create discord, and to create fear and reiterated the national advice that everyone should remain alert and vigilant and report anything suspicious, however trivial it may seem, by calling the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321

For those holding local events we would draw your attention to the advice and updates on the NaCTSO website.

Cows In Worth Park

Three life size cows, created by West Sussex based sculptor Simon Groves, are now in residence in the meadow at Worth Park.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the cows; two adults and a calf, were carved last autumn from a 180-year-old oak tree sourced from the Petworth Estate.

In keeping with the history of the park, they are located close to the ha-ha, a walled ditch intended to be invisible from the house whilst keeping cattle from straying into the formal gardens.
