Gatwick Airport Runway

The head of Gatwick Airport has said that a new runway could be built more cheaply and sooner if the airport was chosen for expansion instead of Heathrow.

The owners of Gatwick have now launched a campaign and set out three options for building a second runway.

However Heathrow say airlines have been unable to sustain long-haul flights at Gatwick and claims 21 services have been withdrawn from there since 2008.

Dormansland Play Area

Children in Dormansland can look forward to fun times ahead.

The play area in the recreation ground is going to be refurbished, with work due to start in May.

Tandridge District Council will donate £10,000 towards the £20,000 project – the rest being funded by donations from local residents and businesses.

Tilgate Rubbish Cleared

A homeowner in Tilgate is facing a hefty bill after failing to clear up their property.

Rubbish sacks and building materials were left in the front and back gardens of the mid-terraced house in Tilgate Way. The gardens were untidy and overgrown –

And an external wall had become dangerous, leaning heavily to the neighbour’s back door.

After letters requesting the owner to take action went unanswered, the council sent in a team.

It took them 5 days to clear up, remove rubbish and paint in the front and back gardens.

The owner will be required to repay the council’s costs.

Crawley Dangerous Driving

A six-year-old girl had a seat belt across her throat because she was sitting on her mother’s lap in the front of a car.

The family were moving house and the back seat was full of items being transported to their new home.

Police stopped the vehicle in Martyrs Avenue, Crawley, during a week-long crackdown on seat-belt offences across the county.

The girl’s father was driving the car – and he now faces prosecution for putting.
