Dunottar School Future Secured

Dunottar School in Reigate faces a new, secure future after becoming a member of United Learning.

Following weeks of uncertainty and an ongoing campaign by Action Group Dunottar Voice, the school’s future is now guaranteed for at least ten years.

One of the first changes to be made is that from September this year the school will welcome boys into Years 7, 9 and the Sixth Form.

Secondary Schools in Surrey

School children this week found out which secondary school they would be attending in September.

And the majority of pupils in Surrey were offered the school of their choice.

83% got their first preference, with 94% getting one of their top three places.

In Reigate & Banstead, those figures rose to 88% getting their first choice, with 94% of pupils in Tandridge heading to their preferred school.

Commonwealth Day

This coming Monday will see 500 flags raised, marking Commonwealth Day.

Councils throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are participating on 10th March.

Councillor Beverley Connolly will raise the flag in Oxted on behalf of Tandridge District Council, and the ceremony in the Memorial Gardens in Horley will be led by Councillor Richard Oliver.

A Commonwealth Affirmation and a message from Her Majesty The Queen will be read out before each flag is raised, starting 10 o’clock Monday morning.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Awards

Surrey Fire and Rescue service has won the Fire and Rescue project of the year at the annual Improvement and efficiency awards.

This project aims to provide fire safety training for people who care for older people and also those with disabilties and health problems.

A Surrey County Council spokesperson commented on how the award demonstrates how seriously the protection of vulnerable people is taken.

Fundraising Lunch

A fundraising lunch hosted by the Mayor or Reigate and Banstead has raised of £1,400 for local charities.

Nearly 100 women from the borough attended the charity event on Friday at Kingswood Golf and Country Club in Sandy Lane.

Cllr Dr Lynne Hack held the event to raise money for Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Surrey Crime Stoppers.

Guest were treated to a talk from Philip Birkenstein, from the St Petersburg Collection of Theo Faberge Creations who also brought along some beautiful examples..
