Energy Company Compensation

Businesses and homeowners who were left without power over Christmas have said that compensation should be based on how long they were affected for.

Thousands were left without power following storms in Kent, Surrey and Sussex over the festive period.

Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution has said it will pay upwards of £54 to customers affected, while those without power on Christmas Day will receive £75.

Redhill Crime Spate

Redhill’s been hit by a spate of crime over the last 10 days.

The town has been hit on five occasions causing misery to residents.

On Tuesday the 29th of Jan to Wednesday the 30th two cars parked on Ridgeway Road had their windscreens smashed and last Friday week two properties were burgled with an assortment of personal items stolen.

And on Saturday 1st Feb, a young boy also had his brand new bike stolen outside the Belfry in Station road.

Weekend Sports Roundup

All local matches in the Ryman and Combined Counties league fell victim to the weather and were postponed this weekend.

Crawley Town’s league away League 1 match at Brentford was also off.

But good news for Reds fans as they sign Crystal Palace youngsters Hiram Boateng and Sullay Kaikai on initial 28-day loan deals.

Crawley’s manager John Gregory commented on how “Palace have a fantastic reputation for producing young talent”

And Crystal Palace had a great Saturday, beating WBA 3-1 in the Premier League.  They extended their unbeaten home run with goals from debutants Tom Ince and Joe Ledley.

Serious Accident on M23 on Sunday

A 19 year old man from Crawley Down was seriously injured in an accident on the M23 in Crawley yesterday morning.

The man was airlifted to the Royal London Free Hospital in Whitechapel after the collision in the northbound carriageway and is in a critical condition.

He was one of two men travelling in a car which had allegedly been stolen and had been abandoned in Stace Way. One man was arrested and the other ran off on foot and was involved in the collision with a car driving northbound on the M23.

The road had to be closed southbound and northbound for the casualty to be treated and for the air ambulance to land.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision on the northbound carriageway of the M23 between junction 10a and 10.
