New Crawley Cemetery

Crawley’s new cemetery has moved a major step closer after work started on-site.

The new cemetery named ‘Little Trees’ near the A264 Crawley South Bypass will eventually provide enough burial space for up to 50 years.

The development is being undertaken by local contractor, Hobart Paving and is scheduled to be completed by next summer.

New Crawley Streetlights

Three new streetlights are being installed in a dimly lit garage area in Northgate, Crawley.

The lights are being erected in the Five Acres garage area following concerns from residents, garage tenants and councillors.

Council officers visited the area and agreed that better street lighting was needed to provide safety and reduce the fear of anti-social behaviour.

Initial trenching works have already taken place and it’s likely that the installation will take about four weeks.

Latest Southern Rail Strike

A new three-day strike by staff on Southern rail got underway yesterday, with hundreds of trains in Sussex and Surrey cancelled.

The action’s over plans for drivers, rather than conductors, to operate carriage doors at certain times.

It’s due to last until Friday morning, with a further three blocks of strikes planned before Christmas.

The RMT has said the rail company’s plans put passenger safety at risk. Southern has urged the union to “move forward”.

The rail company said it plans to run over 60% of its normal timetable during the strike.
