Royal Exhibition In Surrey

Royal historical artifacts are being put on display for public viewing ahead of the Kings Coronation.

Polesden Lacey stately home near Dorking is hosting the event from the end of April and runs until October.

A section of the display will include a visit to Polesden Lacey from the Duke and Duchess of York who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

East Surrey College Grant Award

East Surrey College has been awarded a share of over two and a half million pounds worth of funding from the Department for Education’s Strategic Development Fund.

 The money will be used to invest in new green and digital technologies, which will help improve links with local businesses to develop and enhance their green skills.

 As awareness grows of the urgent need to protect the environment, green careers are becoming increasingly popular.

The College is collaborating with other educational establishments across Surrey to support growth in green industries, specifically linked to construction, electric and hybrid vehicles.

Redhill Prezzo To Close

Italian restaurant chain Prezzo have announced they are to close 46 outlets.

Around 810 workers are at risk of redundancy as part of the overhaul which includes the restaurant at Redhill.

Bosses said the cuts will affect sites where “the post-Covid recovery has proved harder than we had hoped”.

Prezzo said it will work to redeploy “as many staff internally as possible” and will support others in new opportunities.

Arsons in Sussex

Three men have been charged over a series of arsons that have taken place in Sussex.
 
Police said two 19-year-old men from Polegate, along with a 21-year-old have been charged with arson
 
The fires happened in Lewes, Wealden, Horsham and Haywards Heath between June and November 2021.
 
The estimated value of the damage was over £1.1m.
 
They will appear at Brighton Magistrates’ court next Thursday (April 27)

Possible Police Data Breach

Sussex Police and Surrey Police have been reprimanded by the Information Commissioner’s Office for recording more the 200,000 phone calls without people’s knowledge.
 
The reprimand was issued following the release of an app that captured personal data in 2016.
 
The ICO became aware that staff members in both forces had access to the app in 2020.
 
Both forces said the breach was “regrettable”.
