Major Horley Road Works Starting July 4th

There are likely to be traffic delays in Horley from next Monday (July 4th) due to the next phase of water main replacement.

Sutton and East Surrey Water will begin the next phase of works to replace ageing mains in Victoria Road, Horley.

The works are scheduled to start at the junction of Kings Road, progressing towards the junction of Massetts Road.

This first phase of works will involve connecting supplies to an existing, larger diameter, water main and will require the use of two and three-way temporary traffic lights.

The second phase is due to begin week commencing 25 July, when work will begin laying approximately 140 metres of new pipe between the junctions of Massetts Road and Consort Way East.

Due to the nature of the work, this section of road will be closed for approximately six weeks and a signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as normal throughout the works.

Strike Affected Southern Rail Passengers To Get More Compensation

Passengers affected by a series of strikes on the Southern rail network have been promised more generous compensation by the Prime Minister.

The RMT union has staged walkouts over the introduction of driver-only-operated trains and a change in conductors’ roles.

David Cameron said he condemned any action that impinged on journeys.

He made his comments during Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday (Wed 29 June) in reply to Horsham Conservative MP Jeremy Quin.

After commuters staged protests over continuing disruption and calls were made for the franchise to end, Southern said it was operating under difficult circumstances.

Crawley Annual Family Bike Ride

Crawley Cycle Forum’s annual family bike ride saw its best ever turn out last Sunday (26th June).

63 riders of all ages assembled at Oriel High School before setting off at 11.00am.

They followed the Crawley Cycle Network on traffic free roads through Maidenbower following the track-bed of the old railway as it gradually climbs through Crawley Down to East Grinstead.

After a break watching the steam trains of the Bluebell Railway, everyone felt the benefit of the hard work in the morning with a downhill ride back to Oriel school, having completed just over 14 miles cycling,

Roberts scored 11 goals in 86 league appearances for Aldershot before his move north of the border last summer.

Licensed Premises Scam

A scam which targets independent licensed premises is operating in Surrey and Sussex.

A man claiming to be from the local council has been visiting small licensed premises, including supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants.

He tells staff they have not paid for their premises licence and it is about to expire.

The man then asks for immediate payment.

Once the payment has been made, he tells them the new licence will be posted within three days.

The man, who has a British accent, is described as white, around 6ft tall, in his 30s or 40s, with short dark hair and smartly dressed in a suit and tie.

If he’s tried it on with your business, or you can help in any way, please call police on 101.
