Dementia Friendly Swimming Comes To Crawley

K2 Crawley has hosted a day of exercise classes and social activities as part of Dementia Awareness Week
Freedom Leisure, along with Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK and Crawley Borough Council, hosted a range of activities for Living Well Day these included tai chi, table tennis, ballroom dancing and tandem bike rides.

As well as promoting ‘Living Well’ in over 50s, K2 Crawley launched its Dementia Friendly Swimming Project, with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and the Department of Health Innovation, Excellence and Strategic Development Fund.

The project means that staff at K2 Crawley will be specially trained and facilities around the leisure centre will be changed to create the right setting to enhance the swimming experience for people with dementia and their carers.

Tandridge Council Urges Residents To Register for EU Vote

With the EU referendum fast approaching, Tandridge District Council is urging residents to register to vote by the 7 June deadline. Voters who are already registered to vote do not need to register again.

The referendum on the UK’s membership of the Eu will be Thursday 23 June.

The voting guide, which has been delivered to every UK household over the past week, contains important information for voters on how to register to vote, how to cast their vote and arguments from the remain and leave campaign

Memorial For Soldier Killed In Reigate Road Accident

A Redhill woman is raising money for a memorial to a young soldier who died in a car crash.

Fundraiser Mandy Jenkins said the money would pay for a bench and a rugby trophy to honour Coldstream Guard, Ben Regan.

Ben Regan died in Bell Street, Reigate in June 2015.

Mandy Jenkins said the rest of the money raised would go towards helping fund a veterans’ drop-in centre once a month in Merstham.

Surrey Police Target Mobile Phone Drivers

The Roads Policing Unit at Surrey and Sussex Police will be targeting drivers who use their mobile phone at the wheel as part of a week-long national enforcement campaign.

The scheme which started on Monday (24 May), aims to make motorists aware of the risks posed by being distracted by mobile phones whilst driving and to educate them about the serious penalties they could face if they are caught.

Officers will be keeping an eye out for drivers across the county will be handing out advice and penalties where appropriate.

If officers can prove that you are driving dangerously while using your phone you can be banned from the road and jailed for up to two years.
