More rail strike action over Christmas planned

The RMT union has announced more strikes over the Christmas period with workers set to walk out on Christmas eve.

The move comes after the union urged workers to reject the latest pay offer.

Network Rail’s chief negotiator, Tim Shoveller, said the RMT was “playing fast and loose with people’s Christmas plans”

Meanwhile RMT general secretary Mick Lynch told the BBC’s Today programme that “this inconvenience is being caused by the government who are running the playbook”.

A reminder about the use of drones

People giving or receiving drones as gifts this Christmas have been reminded to check the rules and restrictions for flying them near to Gatwick Airport after ‘GQ’ magazine listed drones among its top technology gadgets for Christmas.

Sussex Police deals with more than 200 reports per year of people flying drones within the 5km restricted flight zone surrounding the airport.

Alongside the 5km restricted flight zone, Gatwick is also reminding drone owners that they may need to register themselves as an operator via the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
