More affordable homes in Mole Valley

More affordable homes are to be available in Mole Valley to reduce the use of Bed and Breakfasts for emergency accommodation.

The District Council is currently building 22 new affordable homes, with another 96 expected next year.

It’s just been awarded bronze status for its work in preventing homelessness and received the highest score in the area.

Surrey headmasters oppose grammar schools

Almost every state school headteacher in Surrey has signed a letter to the prime minister opposing Grammar Schools.

They’re against what they call a “selective, segregated, two-tier state funded system of education.”  They also accuse the government of creating “confusion and fragmentation” in the education system, pursuing a policy based on a “nostalgic and unrealistic vision of society.”

Chair of the House of Commons Education Select Committee, Neil Carmichael has said the government is to look at the advantages and disadvantages of Grammar Schools.

Last month state school headteachers in West Sussex signed a letter asking the government for an extra 20 million of pounds of funding saying without it, there will be cuts to schools from next spring.

Police hunting a man after a stabbing in Redhill

A Redhill man is wanted in connection to an assault in the town which left a man with stab wounds.

Police are currently looking for 35-year old Lee Greenwood after the incident in Claremont Road on the 31st October.

He’s described as white, with green eyes and grey hair and anyone with information is being asked to contact the Police immediately.

Alleged sexual assault in Horley

A woman’s alleged she was sexually assaulted in Horley on Saturday.

It’s said to have taken place on Victoria Road at 1:50 in the morning opposite a Lidl store.

Police are currently looking for a people to identify a man they have on CCTV – the image can be found on Surrey Police’s website.
