Brockam Bonfire to go ahead despite suspected arson attack last night

Brockham bonfire is to go ahead after it was set alight last night in what is suspect to be an arson attack.

Residents said they saw youths throwing fireworks at the bonfire after which part of it caught alight.

Fire crews arrived on the scene around 6pm and managed to salvage the 25 ft tall bonfire.

The bonfire will be lit at its proper time of 7:45 tomorrow night after a procession through the local village.

Crawley man convicted after dog attacks officer

A Crawley man has been convicted for owning a dog which was dangerously out of control after it attacked Police.

The Polish Tatra Sheepdog owned by Adrian Charles Kirkpatrick attacked a Police Dog Legislation Officer investigating reports it had killed a neighbour’s cat.

The owner has been sentenced to a community order and is to pay a £550 fine along with costs, victim surcharge and compensation to the officer.  While the dog is to be kept securely inside Mr Kirkpatrick’s house and on a lead and muzzled when outside.

 

 

Number of armed Police to increase in Sussex

The number of armed Police in Sussex is to increase.

Deputy Chief Constable Bernie O’Reilly has said “we are changing the way we do things, built on a good understanding of the needs of the public and the skills of our staff.”

The funding comes from a pledge by the government to provide forces across England and Wales with an extra £143 million to help protect the public from terrorism.
