Report says Sussex and Surrey Police are doing a good job

Both Surrey and Sussex Police have been deemed to be doing a good job according to an independent report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary.

According to its findings, Sussex Police is ‘good’ at keeping people safe and reducing crime.  While Surrey Police has moved from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’.

It notes collaboration between the two forces has improved efficiency.

House destroyed by fire in Copthorne

A house in Copthorne has been destroyed by fire today.

Fire crews from across the area battled to put the blaze out in Herons Close, in Domewood, which was noticed by a passerby who called the Fire Brigade.

Services from East Grinstead, Crawley, Godstone and Salford were involved.

Gritters on the roads for the first time this winter

Gritters will be out in Surrey for the first time this winter as temperatures drop tonight.

They’ll be heading out to grit the roads from 7pm tonight after filling up from the 16,000-tonnes of salt the Council has stockpiled.

1,700 salt bins are also due to be filled by authorities to help people grit their local roads and paths.

Along with this farmers equipped with ploughs are on standby ready to tackle any snow and ice in rural areas.

Police patrols increased in East Grinstead

Police patrols in East Grinstead are to be increased following a spate of car break-ins – six have been reported since the 12th October.

Most recently two youths, aged 16 and 17 were arrested in Dunnings Road on suspicion of being equipped for theft.  Police were called at 3.40 in the morning on Tuesday after three people were seen with torches in a nearby car park.

People are being urged to make sure no valuables are on display in cars and to double-check the central locking.
