Southern Rail hits out at claims it’s ‘hoarding’ profits

Southern Rail has said it “made a loss last year and is not expected to make any profit this year either”.

The operator hit out at claims by the RMT it’s hoarding profits while passengers face disruptions.

The union have asked Transport Secretary Chris Grayling to intervene to deal with the “deep-seated problems” on the network.

A spokeswomen for the The Secretary of State for Transport and the Rail Minister replied by saying, it has “made the Southern dispute a priority,” and called on the union and Southern’s parent company Govia Thameslink Railway to resolve the dispute.

Strikes are currently planned for:

Friday 4 November to 23:59 Saturday 5 November

Tuesday 22 November to 23:59 Wednesday 23 November

Tuesday 6 December to 23:59 Thursday 8 December

Rider Cameras For Prudential Ride-London-Surrey Classic

Fans watching the Prudential Ride-London-Surrey Classic will be able to get right to the heart of the action when it comes to the area next year.

Participating teams will have cameras attached to their bikes, providing footage and data of the race which can be watched on tv, online at the velon website or the velon app.

The race is based on the London 2012 Olympics road race and takes place on the 30th July next year.

Speeding Fines In Surrey Increase

Surrey’s been ranked at the 7th most likely place you’ll get a speeding fine according to legal guide to motoring website UK Motorists.

It comes as Police data shows speeding fines in the area increased by 40% last year.

However, fines for using a mobile phone dropped by a 3rd in the same period.

Gatwick Airport – ‘The London Airport It’s Ok To Like’

Gatwick Airport has been described as ‘The London Airport it’s ok to like’.

Writing in his book Nomad, Alan Partridge, played by Steve Coogan, declares his love for the airport, mentioning its state-of-the-art monorail system and its elegant perimeter road.

He has less affectionate words for Heathrow which has recently been granted a 3rd runway, simply describing it as not very nice – although in more colourful terms.
