Crawley Wasps 0 – 2 Oxford City

The dream of FA Cup success will have to wait until next year for Crawley Wasps.

The hosts were beaten by two-goals to nil by Oxford City in a tense game at the weekend.

The visitors, who currently top the Southern Region Women’s Premier Division, opened the scoring after 23 minutes with a well-struck ball placed just out of reach of debutant Wasps keeper Marie Gilstroem.

The fate of Wasps was sealed in the 73rd minute when Oxford doubled the goal difference.

Thieving couple target Christmas goods in Crawley

CCTV images have been released in an attempt to trace two people thought to be involved in a theft in Crawley.

A man and a woman visited Squires Garden Centre in Horsham Road Wednesday morning and departed without paying for their goods.

The woman positioned herself by the automatic doors, keeping them open while the man took two boxes containing a Snowman and a Reindeer and Sleigh lighting decoration.

The products have a combined valuation of £130.

Chairman of UKIP East Surrey Speaks About Recent Developments

The UK Independence Party’s Chairman for the East Surrey area has spoken to Susy Radio about recent developments concerning the party’s leadership.

UKIP leader, Diane James unexpectedly stood down after 18 days in the post, citing that she was leaving for “personal and professional reasons”.  Nigel Farage has said that he is “technically” party leader again but would not be contesting any future leadership contest.

Speaking on Susy Radio, County Councillor for Godstone Division and Branch Chairman of UKIP East Surrey, Helena Windsor gave her thoughts about the developments.  Neil Munday asked her whether the new leader would stay the distance.

 

East Surrey and North Sussex Football Update

In League two, it was 1-1 for Crawley Town in their away match to Hartlepool United on Saturday.  James Collins scored his seventh goal of the season, extending the Reds’ unbeaten run to six games.

In the Ryman League Premier Division Merstham also gained a point after drawing 2-2 at home to Enfield Town.

Local teams generally fared well in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.  Horsham move to the next round after winning 2-0 away to Potters Bar Town.  South Park hosted Guernsey, winning 2-0, and East Grinstead are also through to the next round after winning 4-0 at home to near neighbours, Three Bridges.

Elsewhere, Horley Town won 1-0 at home to Chertsey Town and at Kiln Brow, Redhill lost 2-3 to Chessington and Hook.

Merstham Regeneration

The regeneration of Merstham has reached a significant milestone with the completion of new shops and ten affordable flats.  

The development on the former Iron Horse pub site forms part of a joint project between Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Raven Housing Trust, to improve facilities in the Portland Drive area.  

The shops, called Quarrydene Parade, will include a convenience store, a dry cleaners, pharmacy and bookmakers. The shops should open in the next few weeks.
