Questions for Sussex’s Police and Crime Commissioner

Sussex residents are invited to put their questions to their Police and Crime Commissioner ahead of a meeting in September.  Katy Bourne would like written questions to be sent to her ahead of the next Sussex Police and Crime Panel meeting, on Friday 23rd September which will take place at County Hall in Lewes.

The main item on the agenda is finance, with the Panel looking at Sussex Police’s medium term financial forecast.

Questions can be about any strategic issue relating to policing in Sussex but not related to an operational issue or a live case.  The deadline for questions is Friday 9th September. Questions can be submitted via the Council’s website at westsussex.gov.uk or by telephoning 033 022 22538.

Can Wasps cause a sting in Crawley?

Crawley Wasps Ladies are back in action this Sunday.

They survived a tense game last week to win by 2 goals to 1 over Camden Town.

For most of the second half the Wasps played with just 10 on the pitch after Roseanne Fine was dismissed for choice words aimed at the referee.

This weekend they welcome Carshalton Athletic to Oakwood FC in Tinsley Lane, Crawley.  Kick-off is 2pm.

Burgers on the BBQ? Tandridge offer advice

Are you hoping to tuck into a burger this bank holiday weekend?

Tandridge District Council and the Food Standards Agency have joined forces to issue advice ahead of the popular Barbecue Weekend.

People are being warned against serving burgers that are pink in the middle.

The FSA is highlighting the fact that whereas steaks can be served rare as bacteria on the surface is usually destroyed when seared on the outside, this is not the case for burgers which are made of minced meat.

Here are some useful tips from Tandridge District Council and the Food Standards Agency:

  •  Cook burgers so they are steaming hot all the way through, no matter how good quality or expensive the meat.
  •  Check none of it is pink and that any juices run clear.
  •  Avoid cross contamination by storing raw meat separately before cooking, using different utensils, plates and chopping boards for raw and cooked food.
  •  Wash your hands after touching raw meat including burgers and before handling any ready-to-eat foods like salads.
