Arrest made following Road Rage in Copthorne

A motorist has been attacked in what appears to have been a road rage incident in Copthorne.

The 67-year-old victim was travelling with his wife Monday evening.  They were followed by another car as they exited the M23.

Whilst driving along the A264 near Crawley, the driver of this other car overtook the victim, stopped and got out of his car.  It is at this point the offender is believed to have attacked the victim before driving off.

A 29-year-old man from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Crawley man wanted in connection with violent offences

A man from Crawley is wanted in connection with a number of offences.

Police would like to speak with 24 year-old Harry Brackpool in a hope he can provide information on several violent offences in Merstham, Three Bridges and Crawley which are alleged to have occurred between 30th & 31st July this year.

Brackpool is described as white, of slim build, 5ft 9ins tall and has green eyes and light brown hair.

He is currently believed to be living in the Three Bridges or Crawley areas.

Arrests made following Smallfield incident

A man has been charged with firearms related offences following an incident in Smallfield last month.

The 57 year-old has appeared in court to answer charges of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

A 53 year-old man from Dormansland has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender following a large scale operation to locate the man.  He has been release on bail until September.

Five Day Strike Affects Southern Railway Services

Southern Railway services are being affected by a five day strike by the RMT union conductors, which began today.  

Southern and Gatwick Express services are already operating a revised timetable from Monday to Friday until further notice.  In the Susy Radio area there will be no services in either direction from Dorking to Horsham, Oxted to Uckfield, and Redhill to Tonbridge.  There will be no Southern service between Redhill and Reigate although Great Western Railway will continue to operate their services between these two stations.  Earlswood, Salfords and Faygate stations will not be served.  A limited service will be provided on other routes between 7.30 am and 6.00 pm.

Football News

Crawley Town Football Club got off to a good start this season in League 2.  They won one nil at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.  The Reds’ line up included seven debutants and three making their first Football League appearances.  The Reds travel to Wolves tomorrow night.  

Merstham host Dorking Wanderers in a friendly tomorrow evening.  Their first match of the season in the Ryman Premier League will be on Saturday away to Billericay Town.

Redhill FC are through to the next round of the FA Cup after winning their Extra Preliminary round tie 4 1 against St Francis Rangers.  The match was officially a home tie but was played at Haywards Heath due to the work being done at Kiln Brow; the entire drainage system is being replaced and the pitch being re-laid.

It wasn’t such good news for Horley Town FC who are out of the FA Cup.  They lost 4 1 away to East Preston FC in their Extra Preliminary round match.
