Gatwick Airport Employees Convicted

Fifteen Gatwick Airport workers who plotted to steal millions of pounds worth of goods from their employer, have been jailed for a total of 35 years.  Several of the workers were from Crawley and one from Lingfield.  Cigarettes, perfumes, alcohol and electrical goods worth almost two and a half million pounds were stolen.

More than 80 officers made arrests in a pre-planned day of action two years ago.  At Lewes Crown Court last week, the defendants were convicted of offences including money laundering and conspiracy to steal.

Crawley Town FC Signs Chelsea Keeper on Loan

Crawley Town Football Club has announced the signing of goalkeeper, Mitchell Beeney.  He will join the Reds on loan from Chelsea until 3rd January.  

Mitchell began his career with Gillingham’s youth academy. He moved to Chelsea where he became a prominent figure of the under 18 squad and was promoted to the under 21 side soon after.

Surrey Drives To Recruit More Children’s Social Workers

Social workers in Surrey are being offered incentive payments of up to £15,000 as part of the county council’s efforts to attract more to work.

New recruits to Surrey’s children’s services will receive £7,000 spread over the first four years of working for the council.

On top of a £2,000 starter payment, they will get £2,500 on each of their third and fourth anniversaries.

The campaign is particularly targeting experienced social workers considering the next step in their career. More information about Surrey’s training and rewards package can be found on the council’s website.

Tilgate Park Awarded TripAdviser Award

One of Crawley’s most popular parks has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence after receiving above average reviews for providing great service.

Tilgate Park is home to the Nature Centre, complete with new Australasian Zone, Walled Garden and café and a lake on which residents can fish and take part in water sports.

Now in its sixth year, the achievement celebrates hospitality businesses that have earned great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year.

The Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have delivered quality.

Police Look For Gang Who Tried To Rob 16-Year-Old

Police in Crawley are investigating an attempted robbery in which the victim was a 16-year-old boy, cycling along a path crossing the railway line between Goffs Lane and Gossops Drive.

The Incident occurred around 10.20pm on Tuesday (21 June). The boy’s way was barred by four youths, one of whom pushed him off his bike. The boy was not injured.

His assailants were all aged 18-20, two white and two black.
