20ft Deep Sinkhole Appears In Caterham On The Hill

A sink hole has opened up in a Surrey village after heavy rain raising fears that more ground could give way.

The hole at Caterham on the Hill was about 6ft (1.8m) wide and was about 20ft (6m) deep before mud fell in.

Tandridge Council said the hole was fenced off and insists the site is now stable.

As there are drainage pipes underneath further investigations are now taking place to find out the exact cause.

Regional Award Presented To West Sussex Firefighters

Fire stations across West Sussex showed off their sponge-squeezing skills whilst taking part in the Fire Fighters Charity Car Wash, held in September and March.

The annual Fire Fighters Charity Car Wash was one of the biggest fundraising events in the Fire Service calendar.

It was an opportunity for West Sussex residents to head down with their ‘grubby’ cars to their local fire station to help raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The service managed to raise a total of £4,173.40 for the charity, From this achievement the service have received a regional award for the hard work and dedication of raising money.

Care Home Open Day In West Sussex

Care homes across West Sussex will be opening their doors to the public as part of National Care Home Open Day on the 17th June.

Residents are encouraged to visit their local care home to get involved in the number of events and activities taking place.

The initiative, supported by West Sussex County Council & West Sussex Partners in Care, looks to help build positive links between care home providers, residents, staff and their local communities.

Horsham Man In Critical Condition

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being found with a head injury and stab wounds in Horsham.

The victim knocked on the door of a flat in Burnham Place, Park Terrace East at around 1.30am on Wednesday (June 8) covered in blood and bleeding. Emergency services were called.

Four people, a 50-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man from Horsham and a 30-year-old man from Pulborough have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody at this time.

Police Apologise Over Restraining Of Disabled Girl

Sussex Police who were investigated over its treatment of an 11-year-old girl who was restrained while in custody has apologised.

The child, who has a neurological disability, was restrained with a mesh hood and leg straps and also handcuffed by officers when she was arrested.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has said a number of officers and staff have a case to answer for misconduct.

Sussex Police’s acting deputy chief constable has apologised for the distress caused.
