Tributes have been paid to the man who died in a collision in Faygate last month.

Trevor Barry Smith died after the Audi A3 he was travelling in left the road and collided with a tree on May 29.

The 37 year old female driver in a serious condition in Sussex County Hospital.

Mr Smith’s family have paid tribute to him as “kind, caring and loveable”.

An 11-year-old girl with a neurological disability was handcuffed and restrained with a mesh hood and leg straps while being held in custody by Sussex Police, the police watchdog found.

The child was arrested by Sussex Police for minor offences and held for 60 hours without an appropriate adult.

The watchdog said a number of officers and staff had a case to answer for misconduct.

The independent Police Complaints Commission made a number of recommendations after its investigation, including: Improved training on the use of force on children and adults with mental illness, to ensure the use of force is avoided wherever possible, additional training on detaining vulnerable people and the role of an appropriate adult and ensuring officers are accountable for their use of force.

West Sussex’s Community Initiative Fund (CIF) has marked a decade of supporting local organisations on the night before the start of Small Charity Week, running from 13-18 June.

In the last 10 years, the County Council’s CIF has awarded more than £3.2 million to approximately 2,000 community groups, small charities and organisations.

Established in 2010 by the Foundation for Social Improvement, Small Charity Week’s aim is to raise the profile of small charities including highlighting their work to a broad audience.

Cheap ‘teething bracelets’ made of amber pose a serious risk to babies and toddlers warn West Sussex Trading Standards.

The amber products are being sold as necklaces, bracelets and anklets, often with claims of calming and soothing teething children.

West Sussex Trading Standards officers tested a teething bracelet and found the items were a choking hazard.

Two sellers in West Sussex are being investigated for their supply. Both have now stopped selling the products.

100 Young Sussex Ballet Dancers are required for a professional production of Swan Lake.

English Youth Ballet is auditioning for roles in a new production of Swan Lake on Monday 4th July at The Hawth Crawley.

At the audition 100 young male and female dancers aged 8 – 18 from across the region will be offered the chance to rehearse with and then dance alongside international professional principal dancers in the production for 3 performances.

The performances will be at The Hawth Crawley from 25th – 26th November 2016.
