Bowls For All Ages

Children and young people can try their hands at a different kind of sport this summer.

An introductory five-week course in bowls is being offered for children aged over eight.

This free course includes tuition, refreshments and all bowls equipment will be provided. Participants should wear casual clothing and trainers.

The sessions take place every Monday from 25 July to 22 August from 10-11.30am.

Southern Rail And RMT To Resume Talks

Southern rail and the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union have resumed talks with conciliation service Acas to settle a row over driver-only trains.

Relations have plummeted during the dispute, with each party blaming the other for service cancellations.

Southern’s owner, Govia Thameslink Railway , and the RMT will meet Acas again next week to try to resolve the row over the role of conductors.

An Acas spokesman said the two parties met on Monday and would resume talks next week.

Police Urge Responsible Drinking During Euro 2016

Sussex Police have urged people to drink responsibly, as police prepare for Euro 2016 tournament.

Sussex Police will be stepping up patrols, particularly at Gatwick Airport and Newhaven port, as large number of supporters expected to travel to France for the competition, which runs from 10 June to 10 July.

Extra officers from both Surrey and Sussex Police will also be on duty across the counties before, during and after high-profile matches to respond to any incidents of disruption and disorder.

In light of last year’s terror attacks, travelling supporters are urged to be alert but not alarmed, and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity to police or stadium officials.

Salfords Farmer Vows To Rebuild Tudor Home

The Surrey farmer who was ordered to tear down his mock Tudor home has vowed to rebuild his home somewhere else.

Robert Fidler built the house without planning permission, in Salfords, in the Surrey greenbelt, in 2000 and hid it behind hay bales.

At a previous hearing, Mr Fidler,, had been told to tear down his home by 6 June or face jail.

On Monday, Stephen Whale, counsel for Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, told the judge that Mr Fidler had made “very good progress in terms of complying with the requirements of the enforcement notices”, but that he had not “fully complied with the requirements”.

New Mayor For Reigate And Banstead

The new Mayor for Reigate & Banstead, Cllr David Powell, has taken up his new role and announced that his theme for his term in office is ‘Love your community’.

Cllr Powell was elected at the full Council meeting last Thursday.

Cllr Powell has been a borough Councillor for Horley since 2012. He is also a Horley Town Councillor and school governor at Horley Infants School.

Having been Deputy Mayor last year, Cllr Powell is looking forward to his year as Mayor.
