Police Looking For Missing Crawley Teen

Police are looking for a Crawley teenager who went missing last Friday.

Beth Lloyd was last seen on Friday (10 June) just after 8pm. It is believed she may have got on a train at Lancing railway station to travel to Nottingham to meet a friend.

Beth is described as white, 5′ 6″, with shoulder length straight dark brown hair and a pale complexion. She was last seen wearing a leopard print vest top, tan coloured jacket with a fur trim, black skinny jeans, and white trainers.

Gatwick Runway Closed Due To Damage

Passengers have been advised to check for possible delays before travelling after Gatwick airport closed its main runway on Sunday following claims the surface started to break up.

The airport said there may be knock-on delays and cancellations to flights following Sunday afternoon’s one-hour closure.

The damage to the runway was discovered during a routine inspection. All flights were stopped while repairs were carried out.

Flights later resumed though the evening schedule was affected.

Ex-Surrey Police Detective Charged For Sex Offences

A former Surrey Police detective from Caterham has been charged with two sex offences dating back to 1991.

John Charles Erskine, is accused of indecently assaulting a woman over the age of 16.

The alleged offences took place in the Redhill area while Mr Erskine was working as a detective inspector in Surrey,

The allegations arise out of an investigation following claims that were made in 2014. He is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court today.

Queen’s Birthday Honours

A number of Surrey and Sussex residents have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.  

Sarah Gates, a Sussex Police mental health liaison officer based in Crawley, has been awarded an OBE for services to those suffering from mental ill health. Surrey Police Temporary Chief Constable Nick Ephgrave is awarded a Queen’s Police Medal.  The Chief Executive of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Michael Wilson has been awarded a CBE after 33 years of service to the NHS.  John Kempton, Team Leader of Oxted and District First Responders has been made an MBE, and Robert Bettesworth owner of Bob’s Shop in Newdigate has been awarded a British Empire Medal for his services to the Newdigate community.  

At the age of 99, Dame Vera Lynn who lives in Sussex has been made a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour.  Surrey resident, actor Brian Blessed has been awarded an OBE.
