Knitters wanted by East Surrey Hospital

Are you a keen knitter?

East Surrey Hospital in Redhill is looking for volunteers to create sensory blankets for elderly patients with dementia or sight impairments.

Members of the Women’s Institute of Aylesford and Eccles have created some sensory – or comfort – blankets after Pam Trangmer, a physician’s associate working on Newdigate Ward, asked her mother whether the WI would help out.

The blankets have been a success, providing a source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation as they include small pieces of fabric and additional items are stitched on offering different shapes and textures.

Now the hospital are asking for other local craft groups to get involved and increase the supply.
