New council homes built in Tandridge after 25 years

Tandridge is seeing its first new council homes in 25 years.

Caterham and Oxted are the locations for these two and three-bed houses which have been designed to meet modern standards.

Energy efficiency, safety, adaptability and security have all been incorporated.

These builds, which are due for completion next summer, have been funded out of money from the sale of council homes through the Right to Buy Scheme as well as rental income.

Rush-hour roads slowest in Surrey

Surrey has the slowest rush-hour roads of any county in the country.

Average speeds dip as low as 14mph.

Morning commuters on Surrey’s A roads are reported to travel an average of 18mph slower than the fastest roads in other counties, at a speed of just over 22mph.

Cats saved from fire in Ifield

Firefighters saved two cats who became trapped in a house fire in Ifield.

The bedroom of a mid-terraced house in Climping Road caught alight the early hours of yesterday morning.

Crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service used breathing apparatus to enter the property.  Whilst fighting the blaze, they rescued the two felines.

A man and woman were also treated for mild smoke inhalation at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The British Red Cross were also on hand to offer their support.

It is believed the fire was started accidentally.

Photo released by police continuing Horsham rape investigation

Police investigating a rape in Horsham have released a photograph of a man they would like to speak with.

It follows an incident on Sunday 16th August where a 22 year-old woman was attacked near St Mary’s Church.

Detectives are very keen to learn the identity of the man pictured on the Sussex Police website.

They would also like to speak with a group of men who are believed to have spoken with the woman shortly after the attack took place.

Children’s Care rated best at Redhill

Children’s hospital care in Redhill has been rated as one of the best in the country for overall experience.

Figures released by the Care Quality Commission following the 2014 National Children’s Inpatient and Day Case Survey show East Surrey Hospital has come top in Surrey, also beating ratings in Kent and Sussex.

The survey consisted of children, young people and their parents who had stayed at the hospital between July and September last year.
