Surrey Libraries

Thousands of older people needing a new book and bus pass are getting both in the same place – their local library.

Surrey County Council libraries are giving residents the opportunity to apply for disabled and senior bus passes in branches.

Staff at 23 branches will check eligibility, fill out the online application and take the required photo.

And plans are also in place for a new library in Merstham as part of a scheme with East Sussex County Council to pool their collective purchasing power to cut costs.

A change in registering to vote

In a change to the electoral registration system people will now be responsible for registering themselves to vote.

Previously the head of the household was responsible for registering family members to vote.

People in Reigate should have received a letter by now informing them of what the council calls a more secure form of individual electoral registration.

While many Reigate residents who are already registered will automatically move onto the new electoral register around 9,000 people will need to take action to remain on it.

People who are still not registered to vote will also have to register but this can all now be done online at www.gov.uk/yourvotematters.

Three Bridges FC friendly result

Following the Three Bridges manager Paul Faili’s new role as interim chairman, the team beat Dorking wanderers 1-0 last night.

The goal came from a stunning volley from Abu Touray in the last of their pre-season friendlies.

Faili has taken on the role from Paul Terry who stepped down after a year in the position.

He said that he is massively proud but that it’s not a position he wants permanently, adding that anyone who has the necessary experience and qualifications should come forward for the position.
