Officers investigating the murder of a Portuguese man over the weekend in Crawley are still trying to contact his family and friends.

The 45-year-old died in hospital after he was found unconscious in an alleyway on Sunday.

Power Bosses Questioned Over Power Cuts

Bosses of power companies were questioned by MPs yesterday over how well they responded to the Christmas storms.
Strong winds brought down power lines just ahead of the festive period with the south east of England, particularly parts of Kent, Surrey and Sussex, being hit worst by the power failures.
The committee examined how the companies reacted to the weather and how they communicated with their customers.
Mark Mathieson, managing director of Scottish and Southern Energy’s electricity networks, praised the efforts of staff who worked hard to reconnect properties.
He added that he felt affected customers were understanding of the problems caused by what he describes as “an unique weather situation”
But he admit that he feels the industry still has to “learn lessons”.

Domestic Abuse Reports

Sussex Police have revealed they dealt with nearly a thousand reports of domestic abuse over the Christmas period.

127 of those calls were on New Year’s Day and 85, on Christmas Day. Officers say on average they usually receive around 63 calls per day throughout the year.
Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne said that it was sad to know that during what should be a happy time for friends and family-Sussex Police were responding to a huge amount of domestic abuse incidents. She also stated that the need for dedicated patrols over Christmas and the New Year has proved once again to be a necessity.

Murder in Crawley

A man from Crawley has died after being found unconscious in an alleyway.

Officers were called to the scene off Haslett Avenue East at 3.25am on Sunday morning.

The 45 year old Portuguese man was initially treated by paramedics at the scene, before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The man was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon.

Three men aged 33, 48 and 23, and a woman aged 22, all from Crawley, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently being questioned.

Police are appealing for any potentional witnesses to call 101, quoting Op Atlas.
