St. Catherine’s Hospice Charity Lunch

Charity lunch held in Moorhouse

The Chairman of Tandridge Council, Councillor Beverly Conolly held a charity lunch on Friday 29th November which raised £2,800 for St Catherines Hospice

The lunch, which took place at the Grasshopper pub in Moorhouse, included a raffle, the prizes for which were donated by local businesses, the guest speaker was David Gold, Chariman of west ham united football club who supplied a west ham gift package as an auction prize.

St Catherines hospice was Councillor Connolly’s charity for her year in office, it is dedicated to providing specialised end of life care to local people, their families, friends and carers.

Surrey Apprenticeships Rise

Apprenticeships in Surrey on the Increase

Surrey County  Council’s latest figures have revealed that Apprenticeships in Surrey for young adults have risen by 8.4%

The figures also revealed that the number of 18 year olds starting apprenticeships in the last year shot up by 6.5% filling more than 700 roles, furthermore almost 1,400 of the apprentice places in Surrey are now being filled by 16 to 18 year olds

The council has set a target of filling 500 more places by March 2014, last year the council incentivised businesses to hire 265 apprentices and having reached the 300 mark last year the council has said it is getting closer to its target

A member of the council has said this is great news for both young people, who are looking to get started on their chosen career path, and businesses, who are looking to secure a skilled workforce, they also said that the programme is assisting the councils promotion of economic growth

 

Historic Building Restored in Crawley

The restoration of a historic Italian Terrace in surrey has been completed

The works, that began in March were driven by Crawley Borough Council with help from £2.4 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Worth Park’s Italian Terrace, created by celebrated landscape gardeners and terracotta manufacturers James Pulham and Son at the end of the 19th century, is the first part of the park’s extensive restoration programme to have been completed.

The work was undertaken by contractors Cathedral Works organisation, the organisation have carried out several stone repairs including the Diana memorial fountain in Hyde park.

In the Premier League, Crystal Palace gave Chelsea a real fright at Stamford Bridge.  Despite losing 2 – 1 to the Blues, the Eagles had many chances on goal which stretched keeper Petr Chec and new manager Tony Pulis was buoyed by his team’s efforts.

It was 2 all in league one as Crawley Town managed to claw back  a 2 – 0 deficit with an injury time goal against Preston North End at the Broadfield Stadium.

There were goals galore at Kiln Brow as Redhill played out a thrilling 4 all draw with Eastbourne Town. Merstham managed a 1 all draw at Ramsgate while Three Bridges came out 4 – 3 winners at Chipstead.  South Park beat Croydon 4 – 0 at home but Horley Town had a miserable afternoon at Windsor, losing 5 – 0.

Tandgridge Recycling Advice

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

In an effort to reduce waste over the festive period, Tandridge Borough Council will be sending out the 12 tweets of Christmas to remind people about the 3 Rs.  Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  Reduce what you buy and use, Reuse what you can and Recycle what’s left.

Some tips include looking for gifts with less packaging, using rechargeable batteries, reusing last year’s spare Christmas cards, and ensuring that you recycle wherever possible.

And there are some great recipes around to help you use up leftovers – it doesn’t have to be Turkey curries all week!
