Housing allocation changes in Crawley

No families in B&B at Christmas

Housing allocation changes by Crawley Borough council means that no family will be spending christmas in a bed in breakfast this year.

These changes were agreed in October and come into effect today (Monday 16th December.)

A member of the Housing cabinet has said they’re extremely satisfied with the changes to the scheme.

Fire in Tilgate

Firefighters called to Flat Fire in Tilgate

A man was injured following a fire in a flat in Tilgate last Thursday.

West Sussex Fire and rescue services extinguished the small fire in the ground floor bedroom.

Ambulance paramedics treated the elderly man, who was suffering from smoke inhalation, with oxygen.  He was later taken to hospital.

Crawley Free School To Close

Discovery New School To Close

MP Henry Smith has expressed his disappointment at the Department for Education’s decision to close Discovery New School in Crawley from next April.  He was particularly concerned by the failure of management and the lack of support

Parents are being told there are places ready for them at other good schools nearby.

West Sussex County Council says there will be minimum upheaval for pupils currently attending Discovery New School.
It’ll shut next April because it’s failed to improve after being put in special measures.

Meanwhile in League One,  Crawley Town welcome skipper Josh Simpson back to the squad.  He’s been passed fit to return for new manager John Gregory’s first home match in charge.  The Reds kick off against Preston at 3pm at The Broadfield Stadium.

Sutton and East Surrey Water Honour Two Horley Men

Sutton and East Surrey Water have honoured two men from the Horley area among seven of its history making long term Employees.

Together the men all have a combined 215 years of service with the water company.

The 35-year career of Barry Skilton and 25-year commitment of Peter Isherwood have helped ensure a 24/7 supply of high quality tap water for more than 675,000 people in the Sutton and East Surrey Water area.
