High Speed Internet in Surrey

More Businesses Are Connected to High Speed Internet

19,000 businesses and homes are now receiving high speed internet as part of a push to make Surrey the U.K’S best connected county.

Surrey County council and BT Completed the push to help firms do business online and ensure every community gets all the benefits of the digital world last month.

Almost 100% of Surrey will have access by the end of 2014 compared with the national superfast broadband aim of 95% by 2017. Once completed, the project could boost the local economy by around £30 million a year.

Private Landlords

Two Private Landlords Fined

Two private landlords from Banstead and Redhill have been fined a total of £3,000 plus costs for failing to protect their tenants from health safety risks.

Reigate and Bansted council won two court cases against the landlords because they did not comply with any instructions for improvements to the property’s.

Mr Mohammed Al Amin, the former proprietor of Rahim’s Tandoori in Bansted, refused to comply with two notices from Environmental Health Officers relating to fire safety and insulation at the flat above the restaurant in Rectory Lane.

On 25 November, Mr Mohammad Sarwar of Brambletye Park Road was also convicted of not complying with two improvement notices to a property in Heston Road, Redhill.

Crawley Burglary

A house is Martys Avenue Crawley was the target of a Burglar last Friday night.

The owner came home to the property at 6.30pm to find a window had been broken and the security light disabled.

Police would now like to speak to a man carrying a dog lead who was seen walking in Langley Green playing field and looking into the gardens of Martyrs Avenue homes.

The man is described as white, in his 30s and around 5′ 8″ with short dark hair. He was wearing dark black rimmed spectacles and a black zip up bomber jacket.

Anyone with information should call surrey police on 101.

Nutfield Marsh Horse Attack

Three Arrested After Horrific Attack on Horse

Two men and a boy have been arrested after a horse was beaten so badly during a “horrific and prolonged attack” that it had to be put to sleep.

The attack took place on Nutfield Marsh, Redhill, just before 3pm on Monday (Jan 13th)
Two men in their 30s and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty following the attack and released on bail until Thursday while the investigation continues.

Neighbourhood Officer PC Alice Bennett, said: “This was a horrific incident, where a defenceless animal was subjected to a prolonged attack in a public place during daylight hours”.

Officers and the RSPCA are carrying out a joint investigation, and if you have any information that may help, contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference P14011987.

Broadfield Barton Improvements

Broadfield Barton improvements explained

Long-awaited improvements are imminent for Broadfield Barton thanks to funding from Crawley Borough Council and local businesses.

Improvements including better CCTV, new paving, a new canopy and improved parking are set to start in the summer and be completed in the autumn.

On Saturday 18 January from 11am-2pm, the council will be holding an exhibition at the Barton to provide local residents with information on the planned improvements.
