Fatal Collision near Capel

A teenager has died in collision near Capel.

At 10 o’clock Sunday evening a grey Seat Ibiza and a silver Ford Fiesta collided on the A24 between the Clark’s  Green roundabout and the Kingsfold railway bridge.

The teenage girl was a passenger in the Seat and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Both drivers of the cars have serious injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Surrey police.

Redhill Hospital recognised for its employability

East Surrey Hospital has been recognised for its efforts in supporting people with disabilities.

The hospital in Redhill came first in the category ‘Pulling It All Together’; part of the Surrey Choice ‘Employability – Making a Difference’ Awards.

37 year-old employee Gavin Jackson from Smallfield was presented with an award for ‘Outstanding Achievement’.  Jackson, who has a hearing impairment, took up a job in the hospital’s post room just over a year ago.

Football Update

Crawley Town face relegation after conceding two goals in the final three minutes in a dramatic 4-3 defeat at Peterborough.
The Reds are now in the League One relegation zone on goal difference with just one game left.

And in the Ryman League, it was a good afternoon for Merstham who won 3 – 1 at home to Sittingbourne and even better for Redhill who beat South Park in their away match by a similar margin. Three Bridges also took all the points in their 3 – 2 home win against Carshalton Athletic while East Grinstead Town had the only local disappointment of the weekend losing 2 – 1 at Whitstable Town.

Drugs Crackdown in East Grinstead

Police in East Grinstead have been working to curb drugs activity amongst young people in the town centre.

Officers from the East Grinstead Neighbourhood Police Team along with a police drug detection dog, patrolled the town centre on Tuesday 14th April.

The operation was planned following concerns from local businesses and residents, about young people gathering in possession of illegal substances.

Officers targeted fast food chains in the town centre, underground car parks and the recreation areas of Mount Noddy and the King George centre.

A 16-year-old girl was detained for a drugs search and a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Redhill Stabbing Sentence

A man’s been sentenced to 3-years and 4-months in prison following a stabbing in Redhill which occurred at the end of last year.

Dominic Appau-Kwateng, 21, of Parritt Road in Redhill was arrested following an attack on a man in St Anne’s Drive near the Home Cottage pub on Wednesday, 10 December.

The victim was stabbed after he refused to hand over his mobile phone to the attacker.

He was taken to St Georges Hospital in Tooting for treatment and has since made a full recovery.
