Propane cylinders discovered in Warninglid fire

A garage in Warninglid has been destroyed by fire.

Fire crews from Haywards Heath, Horsham and Crawley were called to the blaze in Warninglid Lane Monday afternoon.

Two propane cylinders had to be removed from the garage and cooled using a hose reel.

The fire is thought to have been accidental.

Crawly plans to commemorate 70th anniversary of VE Day

Crawley is preparing to commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE day.

8th May celebrates the end of six years of war across Europe: 1939 – 1945.

There is a service planned in the Memorial Gardens followed by a 1940s style vintage tea party in Northgate from 4 o’clock.  A beacon will then be lit in Tilgate Park in the evening.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 3 o’clock.

Radio Redhill celebrate 40 years

A hospital radio station has celebrated a milestone.

Radio Redhill has been recognised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association for 40 years of service to hospital radio and the community.

The station is based at East Surrey Hospital having first broadcast to patients at Redhill General Hospital on Christmas Day 1974.  Regular broadcasts commenced the following year.

Arrests for organised crime in Crawley

Three people have been arrested in connection with an ongoing operation into organised crime in Crawley.

Just after midday on Friday officers from Sussex Police and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit arrested two men in their twenties and a teenage woman on suspicion of conspiracy to prevent the course of public justice linked to serious organised crime.

They also carried out warrants in Eddington Hill; Five Acres and Maidenbower.

Football Update

Crawley moved out of the League One relegation zone with a comfortable two nil win against fellow strugglers Notts County.

The Reds are now three points clear of the relegation zone, although both 21st-placed Leyton Orient and 22nd-placed County have a game in hand.

In the Ryman League, Redhill were hammered 4 – 1 at home to Chipstead, and East Grinstead Town lost 2 – 0 at home in their match against Tooting and Mitcham United. Three Bridges also lost by a similar margin in their away encounter with Sittingbourne but a good performance from South Park earned them an away point in a 1 all draw at Corinthian Casuals. The best performance of the weekend was Merstham’s 3 nil away win at Carshalton Athletic.
