Weekend Football Update

Crawley Town faced a long miserable journey home from Rochdale on Saturday as their poor form continued with a 4 – 1 defeat

The Reds have now gone 11 league games without a win and linger second from bottom in League one.

Elsewhere, in the Ryman League, Redhill had a convincing 5 – 1 away win at Corinthian Casuals and Three Bridges beat Chipstead 4 – 2 at home. However it wasn’t all rosy for our local sides as East Grinstead went down 3 – 2 at home to Burgess Hill Town and Merstham lost 3 – 1 at home to Folkstone Invicta. Even worse for South Park who succumbed 4 – 0 at home to Faversham Town.

Oxted Fight

Surrey Police are continuing their appeal for witnesses following an altercation between two young men in Oxted on Christmas Eve.

The incident happened at 2.40pm in a car park next to Morrisons supermarket in East Hill, near a black-coloured 4X4 vehicle.

It was stopped after intervention by a member of the public

The first teenager is described as wearing blue tracksuit bottoms, and having a bare chest. The other is described as white, with dark hair and in his early 20s.

Police said they were particularly keen to speak to a woman, who after seeing the incident, ran away with her crying child.

Anyone with any information should contact Surrey Police by calling 101 (999 in an emergency) or report it online at www.surrey.police.uk quoting the reference number 45140108718.

Anti Fly Tipping Campaign Launched

Crawley Borough Council’s launched a new campaign to tackle fly-tipping.

Almost 1,800 incidents of fly-tipping were reported to the council last year, and these cost around £75,000 to clear.

Wardens will be extending their patrols as well as concentrating on fly tipping hotspots.

Fixed penalty notices of £80 will be issued for small items of fly-tipping (up to the size of two filled refuse sacks). Larger items – for example washing machines and large piles of garden waste – may attract fines of more than £50,000 plus a prison sentence.

Attempted Robbery at Horsham Bookie

A firearm may have been involved in an attempted robbery in Horsham on Wednesday 14th January.

A man entered William Hill’s Bookmakers in Fitzalan Road at around 9:30pm and pointed a bag which contained what may have been a handgun at the counter assistant. He then demanded money, but the assistant refused and he ran out empty handed.

The man was described as being around 6’ tall, of heavyish build wearing a black hoody and and brown peaked baseball cap.

As there was no one in the shop, police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything at the time.

If you saw anything suspicious, please contact Police via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call on 101 quoting serial 1448 of 14/1. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
