Fatal collision in Nutley

An elderly cyclist has died in a collision in Nutley.

79 year-old Michael Long was declared dead at the scene shortly before 10 o’clock Sunday morning after being in collision with a Renault Megane on A22 High Street.

The cyclist and the vehicle were travelling in opposite directions when the incident occurred outside Nutley Service Station.

The road was closed for 6 hours whilst the air ambulance attended and investigation work carried out.

The 32-year-old driver from East Grinstead was not hurt.

Revellers reminded to use Licensed Taxis in Crawley

Party-goers in Crawley are being advised to only use licensed taxis for New Year celebrations.

Crawley Borough Council have issued these tips for revellers:

  • Make sure you get into a licensed vehicle – it will have a Crawley Borough Council plate on the back
  • Taxis, which are all white, can be hailed in the street and at the town’s taxi ranks
  • Private hire vehicles must be pre-booked though the company, not the driver of the car
  • If the private hire vehicle is from a Crawley company make sure it has a Crawley Borough Council plate on the back and Crawley ID in the car.

Screaming girl causes panic in Crawley

A panic was caused after a girl was heard screaming and shouting in a people carrier in Crawley.

Police launched an appeal to find the two children, a woman and man in the vehicle following the incident Saturday evening shortly after half-past eight.

The driver of the vehicle from Horley came forward and explained the children were his daughter and a friend – they were shouting at people they headed along the High Street towards ASDA.

Police applaud the witnesses for raising the alarm as there was no way of knowing whether it was a serious incident or not.

Mother and two children have died in a fire in Newchapel

Three people have died in a caravan fire in Newchapel.

Two children, aged one and six, and one woman, their 36 year-old mother, were pronounced dead at the scene of The Plantation mobile home site in West Park Road just after half-past one this morning.

The 35-year-old husband and his eldest child, 10 years old, were treated for burn injuries by paramedics – the child was then taken to East Surrey Hospital.

Emergency landing at Gatwick Airport

There was drama at Gatwick Airport yesterday as a plane was forced to make an emergency landing.

The Virgin Atlantic flight VS43 took off from the airport in West Sussex bound for Las Vegas but was forced to circle before turning back due to a fault with it’s landing gear.

It has been described as an ‘impressive-safe landing’ with only some passengers suffering minor injuries.

The runway was closed for several hours following the landing.
