Betchworth Accident

Two people were seriously injured following a collision in Betchworth last Friday lunchtime.

The accident on Reigate Road was between a blue Kia Carens and a silver Toyota Yaris.

The injured – who were the drivers of the two cars involved were taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting and the East Surrey Hospital.

Weekend Football

In Saturday’s football, Crawley Town came back from 2 – 0 down to draw with League One strugglers Scunthorpe.

The Reds pulled a goal back through Dean Leacock’s header and Izale McLeod levelled from the spot after Jennison Myrie-Williams fouled Dickson.

Elsewhere in the Ryman League, Redhill beat East Grinstead Town 3 – 2  away while Three Bridges won 2 – 1 at Folkestone Invicta.

Merstham completed a hat trick of victories for our local teams with a 3 – 2 win at home to Tooting and Mitcham United.

Crawley Capers

Last Thursday, (20 Nov) Crawley MP Henry Smith MP spoke about Crawley Capers in the House of Commons and called on people across the whole of Sussex to support them in their bid to win £50,000 of funding from the People’s Millions scheme.

Capers – The Crawley Town FC Community Sports Foundation and Autism Sussex – work mentoring children with autism.

The project was shortlisted by the People’s Millions as one of six social action projects in with a chance of winning £50,000.

Voting is open from 9am this Wednesday (26th November) until midnight. The phone number to call to Vote for Capers will also be released on Wednesday morning. Keep an eye on our website at Susy radio dot com for details.

Underage Alcohol Sales

A child has been sold alcohol in an off-licence in Crawley.

Underage customers went to eight pubs and off-licences across Horsham and Crawley as part of a police operation last Thursday.

At seven locations, including Costcutter in Horsham; Best One in Crawley and Wine Express stores in Crawley, the young volunteers were challenged by staff who refused to serve them alcohol.

However a member of staff at West Sussex Wines in Ifield Drive in Crawley was caught selling alcohol to someone who was underage.

The neighbourhood licensing team will work to ensure all staff are correctly trained. Failure of further test purchases could result in prosecution.

Burglaries Fall

Reported burglaries across the south east have fallen.

Following a three-week joint campaign between Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Thames Valley Police, the number of burglaries between 27 October and 16 November fell by 16% compared to the same three weeks in 2013.

Overall, figures fell from over 1200 last year to just over 1000 this year.

In Sussex there were 239 burglaries compared to 256; and in Surrey the number fell from, 222 to 189.
